Manual lymphatic drainage or MLD, as it’s otherwise known, is a specialized treatment that gently assists the lymphatic system in maintaining the body’s fluid balance, blood circulation, and immune mechanisms.
The lymph system is part of your body’s immune system helping to fight infection and is an effective way to treat a broad range of inflammatory soft tissue conditions affecting the body’s lymphatic/immune system. Common symptoms include fatigue, pain and oedema (swelling). These may be acute or chronic, typically following illness, injury and surgical procedures.
MLD is also used in the treatment of lymphoedema particularly after the removal of nodes due to cancer. MLD works at a cellular level to repair any damaged cells, benefiting the auto-immune system and reducing the amount of flares experienced by patients.
